Founders Factory Africa (FFA) is an African early-stage investor supporting founders across the continent to deliver local solutions to local challenges. Through a unique, hands-on model which provides founders with both access to capital and hands-on support has enabled FFA to build a portfolio of over 55 ventures across 11 countries in East, West, North and Southern Africa. FFA and Small Foundation partnered in 2021 to design, build and scale 18 high growth, high-impact agtech start-ups across sub-Saharan Africa.

Systems lens

FFA provides deep expertise to help businesses grow; combining capital with tailored support aimed to ensure founders overcome their most pressing technical, strategic, and commercial challenges. Whilst FFA is seeking to invest in and support over 100+ early-stage ventures over the coming five years, the partnership between Small Foundation and FFA supports agtech entrepreneurs to innovate and improve the delivery of services to smallholder farmers and other stakeholders across the agriculture value chain. Our collective ambition is that more agtech ventures scale to attract more capital from a broader range of investors, leading to improved efficiencies, opportunities and livelihoods in agricultural ecosystems across the continent.

Partner perspective

“Small Foundation’s support to Founders Factory Africa has had a tremendous impact to our ability to drive increased value, support and capital to early stage agtech founders. This work has been instrumental in supporting founders who serve Africa’s rural communities. The partnership provided targeted support to these entrepreneurs and founders at the forefront in creating and scaling innovative technologies which will provide the solutions to enable increased agricultural productivity and greater access to market, amongst other key pressure points the industry faces. All of this subsequently ensures increased incomes for many smallholder farmers across the continent.”
