The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a global network of organisations that propel entrepreneurship in developing countries. Drawing on ANDE’s global membership of over 250 organisations, the West Africa Chapter (WAC) offers an inclusive regional platform for stakeholders engaged in the West African SGB ecosystem to share knowledge, build connections and collaborate. In late 2022, Small Foundation signed a multi-year agreement with ANDE WAC to support its network offerings to partners. Small Foundation previously provided core support to the East and West African chapters between 2016-19.

Systems lens

ANDE’s mission is to improve lives by strengthening the ecosystems that foster SGBs. Small Foundation is partnering with ANDE WAC to support key policy dialogues, advance its research and data functions across West Africa, and strengthen membership engagement. This partnership also aims to further ANDE WAC’s work to expand relationships across francophone and anglophone member segments, deepening stakeholder connections in key markets and exploring opportunities for shared policy engagements across the region, with a key focus on strengthening relationships with members and key entrepreneurial ecosystem actors.

Partner perspective

“Through Small Foundation’s partnership, ANDE West Africa has successfully organised convenings which has enabled us to learn about and address some of the challenges faced by actors in the entrepreneurial ecosystem – under gender, climate, and decent work thematic areas. In addition, Small Foundation’s support has also enabled us to communicate our advocacy points in a more compelling way through storytelling.

Small Foundation’s support has strengthened ANDE West Africa as a network of network enabling us to build stronger local ties with specialist networks and associations that support some of the most vulnerable ecosystem stakeholders including women and young entrepreneurs in both rural and urban West Africa.”
